I read something a while back that said “we crave what we eat.” When we eat junky, sugar-filled foods, our bodies craves more junky, sugar-filled foods! However, when we eat healthy, God-made foods, our bodies will crave healthy foods! I have noticed that when I fast from sugar or processed foods that after a while my body stops asking for those foods. I end up naturally gravitating towards fresh fruits and veggies.
In Isaiah 55:2 it says “Why spend money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food.”
Now, I know that part of that is talking about spiritual nourishment, but it can be taken for physical nourishment, as well! Why do we spend money on junk food that does nothing for our bodies (besides causing weight gain, disease/illness, depression, and low self-esteem)? We need to stick to God-made, natural foods, then we can’t go wrong with our eating. Our weight will go to where it should, we will be healthier, and have more energy (and better self-esteem!) When you get your priorities in order (by putting God first), everything else just falls into place! This has been such a great reminder for me this week when I get tempted to eat something unhealthy. I ask myself, what good will that do for my body? And I will be thinking about this verse the next time I am at the grocery store. If tempted to buy any junk foods, I will remind myself of that question: “Why am I wasting my money on something that will only bring a moment’s pleasure, but end in feelings of guilt, low energy, and possible sickness?”
Another thing that has been helping me to eat healthier is to help others to eat healthy! I get a lot of questions from people at church and friends about what to eat and which exercises would be best for them. I absolutely LOVE helping other women in this area, it is a huge passion of mine! I’ve taught a couple small groups at church on how to eat healthy while honoring God with your body, and they have went really well. I have been helping a couple friends create healthy diets and exercise plans… But more than anything I try to lead by example.
